# Troubleshooting

> Fixes for the problems people hit most.

> **octonote: command not found**
>
> npm's global folder isn't on your PATH (rare: npm and nvm normally set this up). Add this to `~/.zshrc` or `~/.bashrc`, then open a new terminal:
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> export PATH="$(npm prefix -g)/bin:$PATH"
> ```
>
> With nvm, install the CLI again after switching Node versions.

> **You're not signed in**
>
> Run `octonote login`, or set `OCTONOTE_TOKEN` for agents and CI.

> **The Authorize page says “One more step”**
>
> Your browser blocked the page from reaching the CLI. Copy the token and paste it into the terminal where `octonote login` is waiting.

> **NETWORK errors inside Codex**
>
> Codex's sandbox blocks the network by default. See [Codex](https://docs.octonote.ai/agents/codex.md#allow-network-access).

> **Claude asks permission every time**
>
> Allow `Bash(octonote:*)` in `.claude/settings.json`. See [Claude Code](https://docs.octonote.ai/agents/claude-code.md#skip-the-permission-prompt).

> **MERMAID\_INVALID**
>
> Only flowcharts become canvases, and the error names the line. Put other diagram types in a note as a ` ```mermaid ` block.

> **PLAN\_LIMIT**
>
> The workspace already has 10 of that kind on the Free plan. Upgrade in **Settings → Plan & billing**, or delete something. See [Plans](https://docs.octonote.ai/guides/plans.md).

> **npm install fails or the registry is blocked**
>
> Install the same package from our site instead:
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> npm i -g https://octonote.ai/cli/octonote-cli.tgz
> ```

> **A token stopped working**
>
> It was revoked or expired. Run `octonote login` again, or create a new one in **Settings → CLI & agents**.
