# Sharing

> Share with people by email, or with anyone who has the link.

Click **Share** on any note, canvas, project or notebook.

## People with access

Type an email under **Add people by email**, choose **Editor** or **Viewer**, and click **Share**.

* **Editors** can change the item and add more people.
* **Viewers** can read it.
* Someone who doesn't use Octonote yet shows as **Invited**. They get an email and access as soon as they sign up.
* Use **Remove access** on a person to take it away.

## General access

| Option | Who can open it |
| - | - |
| **Restricted** (default) | Only people with access. |
| **Anyone with the link**, as Viewer | Anyone on the internet with the link can view. |
| **Anyone with the link**, as Editor | Anyone with the link can view; signed-in people can edit. |

**Copy link** copies the item's normal address. Only the owner can change general access.

## Inheritance

Sharing flows down: a notebook's access applies to the projects, notes and canvases inside it, and a project's to its note and canvas. If someone has access in two ways, the higher one wins.

## Who is the owner

Whoever created an item owns it, and so do the workspace's owner and admins. Owners can change general access, publish, move and delete.
